Learning German, One Word at a Time

Last week, I found out that I have been invited to Germany. I was so excited, my family told me that I had ants in my pants. To prepare for my first international adventure, I started taking German lessons. My friends on social media suggested some great words for me to memorize. Here are my favourites so far:

1. Feierabend
Feierabend means it is time to stop working and to go home.  I really wish there was a word for this in English.

2. Currywurst
Currywurst is a meal that consists of sausage, curry and ketchup. Apparently it is very popular in Berlin. Too bad I cannot taste food, it looks and sounds delicious.

Currywurst & Pommes frites

3. Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung
Apparently there is no “Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung”, or speed limit, on many parts of the German Autobahn. Now that’s something to look forward to.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping me prepare for my journey. Keep teaching me your favourite German words or phrases by sharing them on Facebook and Twitter.
